Job Details

An internship with the Mt. Lebanon Public Information Office gives you the opportunity to put your journalistic writing skills to work while gaining working knowledge of public relations in a small office environment. You work closely with the Public Information Officer as well as members of other departments of the Mt. Lebanon municipality to publish a monthly magazine, keep the community informed about important issues and produce events of varying sizes and purposes. Working so closely with the community opens doors for volunteer opportunities and forges connections with influential and respected citizens of Pittsburgh.

We are looking for college juniors or seniors pursuing degrees in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field. Interns may help with the following:

  • Media contacts and news releases
  • Special events
  • Researching and writing magazine articles
  • Setting up photo shoots
  • Working on flyers and brochures
  • Planning promotions
  • Helping maintain the magazine website ( and the municipal website (

Candidates should be at least a junior and have the following credentials:

  • Good writing skills
  • Strong verbal communication and telephone skills
  • People skills
  • Creativity and enthusiasm
  • Computer skills

Please Note: This is a non-paying internship but may be done for college credit. Schedule is flexible, two or three days a week for a total of 15-20 hours. Work may also involve projects for Mt. Lebanon’s Commercial Districts and Recreation Departments. The office is convenient to public transit. However, due to COVID-19, 2022 internships can be structured on a hybrid in-office/work-from-home schedule.
